What is the cost of the 2024 NNICL Season Pass?

The “Early Bird” cost for the NNICL Season Pass is $335 per athlete if paid by May 31, 2024. After May 31st, the cost increases to $350 per athlete.

Why has the fee structure changed?

NNICL has grown significantly since its inception and now offers student-athletes a truly comprehensive mountain biking experience that is much more than just the race series. Relying largely on individual race-event registrations was not a sustainable funding model to support long-term growth of the organization. NNICL leadership, in consultation with team head coaches and NICA, determined that to ensure the long-term success of the league a more stable and predictable funding model was needed. Also, the administrative burden of managing registrations for each race takes NNICL staff away from other league development activities. Many other NICA state leagues have already moved to a similar fee model or are in the process of doing so. In fact, our sister league, Nevada South, rolled out a flat rate fee of $365 for the 2024 spring season.

What does my NNICL Season Pass registration fee cover?

Your single, flat fee covers NICA national registration, NNICL league registration, insurance coverage for team practices and NNICL events, all race event weekends, race-plates and timing at races, GRiT events, Teen Trail Corps activities, new clinics and more. Individual teams may also have a separate team registration fee.

Does the NNICL Season Pass cover NNICL/NICA summer camps?

No. Special NNICL summer camps (GRiT, bike packing, etc.) are not included in the Season Pass and will continue to require separate registration fees. However, with the new fee structure we will be able to continue developing and offering a wider variety of summer camps to Nevada North student-athletes!

Does the NNICL Season Pass cover non-competitive activities and events, like GRiT rides and New Racer Clinics.?

Yes, the Season Pass covers all Nevada North events outside of racing.

Does my NNICL registration cover the national NICA registration fee too?

Yes, the NICA fee ($50) is included in the flat-fee NNICL Season Pass price.

Does my NNICL registration cover local team fees?

No, team fees are separate from your NNICL/NICA registration and are set at the discretion of your local team. Team fees typically cover administrative costs for the team, team gear, team kit (uniform), etc. Your team will communicate its costs to you directly.

Do I have to pay the NICA/NNICL registration for my child to participate with a local team?

Yes. Local teams operate under the jurisdiction of NICA and NNICL and get their insurance, etc., from being part of the state and national organization. Athletes on local teams must be fully current with all state and national league registrations in order to participate.

Is there a way for my child to try this out before committing?

Yes. Many local teams offer pre-season “Try it” events for prospective athletes and parents. Also, at the local team’s discretion, athletes may also be able to participate in one actual team practice. Either option requires a parent or guardian to sign an insurance waiver. Due to the requirements of our national insurance plan, this waiver can only be used on one occasion. To continue after that, the student must have her/his national registration current.

If my child quits, are there refunds?

We realize that mountain biking is a new sport for many, and parents may be concerned that their child may not stick with it. The Nevada North Interscholastic Cycling League strives to put on world class events and provide all of our student athletes, coaches and volunteers with the best resources possible at practices throughout the season. With this goal in mind, we make a financial investment to cover insurance, training, and planning activities. Those expenses are continuously incurred. In order to maintain the sustainability of the Nevada League, it is necessary we implement a NO REFUND policy.

What if my child gets injured and can’t practice or race during the season?

The Nevada North League fee may be partially refundable for season-ending injuries that prohibit them from participating in practices and races. A doctor’s note must be provided. There is a minimum $100 non-refundable fee to cover NICA fees, insurance, and registration. Refunds cannot be made after the second race. Our advisory team will review the case and make a determination.

Are scholarships available?

We are aware of the financial burden which youth sports can have on a family and do not want finances to be a barrier to joining our community. Most local teams offer scholarships and you should check with your Team Director first. If they do not have any available, the league has a scholarship fund and we will continue offering scholarships thanks to our amazing sponsors and individual donors. Our scholarship process is simple and confidential.
